Great guessing coconuts.

I suppose some of the use for palimpsest could have been graffiti or art, although existing examples tend to be more of literature or cultural heritage , including legal contract.

Close enough, Booklover.

Palimpsest is leather, often from a calf, used for recording in ancient times. Stones (or other objects) would erase text from softened skin to be reused. Special techniques reveal the previous writing for study.
