Here, men make hand puppets of children.
You see only glinting eyes and sick, satisfied smiles.
Those children's cries will haunt you forever.
There, a family sits smiling, at dinner.
But a girl's smile doesn't reach her eyes.
And the hand on her thigh doesn't belong there.
Her mother looks resolutely in the opposite direction.
And murmurs about their happy life.
The bedroom is halved.
These children sleep, too emotionally drained to move.
These ones lie awake, wide eyed and trying not to think.
An echo chamber holds the voices of all the abusers.
Their sound never ceases.
A never ending soundtrack of destruction while children cover their ears and scream.
Their voices a whisper in the void.
Children cling to others.
Or else shun contact entirely.
Loneliness shrouding them like the blankets they once believed kept them safe.
Some live in glass boxes.
Tiny fists trying to shatter their cells.
Desperately trying to be heard.
A million judges bang gavels and say "NOT GUILTY".
A million mother's scream "LIAR" in the tear streaked faces of their children.
A million doors hide a million secrets.
And a million abusers wash away the traces of a million small bodies into the sewer.
Smiling at a plan well executed.
